Brewery Tab
For the majority of projects, grouping of data by Brewery provides a logical partitioning of the vast quantity of data, and the "Brewery" tab is used to edit, add, or delete Brewery information for the currently selected Project.
Additionally, CanDB references for a given item are in the form of "brewery reference - item reference". While publications such as USBC, BCU, Class etc are typically referenced by "page number - item on page" numbering (e.g. 123-12), within CanDB the data is virtually organized with new items able to be added at any time, corrections made at any time and even items deleted if necessary. As such, there is no concept of CanDB page numbers since the HTML pages can be recreated maybe 100's if not 1000's of times before a given project version is released. A CanDB reference of 60-25 refers to brewery reference 60, and item reference 25 within that brewery, and both numbers are displayed in the navigator tree next to their respective items.
Recommendation: Number your breweries in multiples of 5 or 10, for example, 10, 20, 30 ... This way if a new brewery needs to be inserted later it is easy to insert a new reference number without shifting others. A similar recommendation for item numbers, use references in multiples of 5 or 10 to leave gaps for inserting newly discovered variations. If necessary, you can always use the “Tools -> Renumber Brewery References”.
Note: The brewery Reference, Short Name, and Long Name must be
unique within a Project.
The “Add” button will be grayed out until you enter unique values.
The possible
properties for a given Brewery are
described below:
Property |
Description |
Reference |
An integer reference number for the given brewery. This is a mandatory field and must be unique across breweries before able to Save/Add. Recommendation is to leave gaps for possible later brewery additions. |
Short Name |
An understandable but still concise name for the given brewery. When generating beer can pictorials where a brewery name is listed, there is often limited space for the brewery name, and the "Short Name" form is used for these pictorials. This is a mandatory field and must be unique across breweries. This value is also used in defining the folder name for data for this brewery (minus any special characters). |
Long Name |
A verbose, fully descriptive name for the brewery, used wherever space is not limited. |
Short Location |
Similar to the Short Name property, for pictorials and space limited, an understandable but still concise brewery location will be used. |
Long Location |
A verbose, fully descriptive location for the brewery, used wherever space is not limited in the HTML. |
Street Address |
Currently only used in the Brewery HTML page, and will be skipped if no value is entered/known. |
Years |
Optional begin and ending years of brewery operation, if known. While details for a given brewery may be hard to find, this information is often out there and adds a nice touch to your HTML pages. |
Extra Text |
Optional extra information about the brewery to be shown on the Brewery HTML page, as well as in the generated Brewery composite listing. If any special formatting is desired for this content, please use standard HTML tags in this content (e.g. <b>, <u>, <br>, etc) |
Image1 / Image 2 |
Optional pictures of the given brewery for display on the Brewery HTML page. As with all images, click on the given cell, a FileChooser window will be displayed, and once selected the image will be COPIED and scaled into the project. The original source images will never be changed/moved/deleted, just scaled copies made. |
